The SRC for Functional and Applied Genomics was established in 2000 at the University of Queensland as part of the Special Research Centre program of the Australian Research Council. The centre aims to provide and develop rate-limiting technologies that can enable world-class research in the field of genomics.

SRC technology units have three main functions:

• to provide convenient, rapid and cost-effective access to limiting technologies.
• to carry out research that expands or improves the applications of limiting technologies.
• to develop new technologies within their broad focus area.

The SRC for Functional and Applied Genomics is primarily embedded within the Institute for Molecular Biosciences (IMB), but also embraces senior researchers from the Faculty of Biological and Chemical Sciences (BACS) of the University of Queensland.

The SRC Microarray Facility is a member of  the Australian Microarray and Associated Technologies Association (AMATA)
